The Koban, or oval-grip shinai, is designed to help the kendoka naturally feel the angle of the blade with every swing. Unlike round grips, the oval tsuka provides immediate feedback on hasuji, making it easier to maintain correct blade alignment during strikes.

This shinai is preferred by many kendoka for daily keiko and is also suitable for shiai, shinsa, and suburi. Its familiar balance and comfortable grip make it an excellent choice for practitioners who want to try the koban style for the first time or restock reliable shinai for regular training.
